It’s been a while since I’ve been inspired enough to write about new music. Sure, I’ve picked up some really great albums recently, including Ne Obliviscaris, Agalloch, and Chvrches, but they haven’t grabbed me in such a way that I need to share them. That is reserved for this song, which I first heard a week ago, and have not stopped listening to it since.

I have been a fan of Nickel Creek for a very long time, and I love their brand of bluegrass-influenced, mostly acoustic music. It’s not bluegrass, it’s not country, but a kind of unique modern folk that I absolutely love. I’ve discovered a few other bands in the same category, but none with Nickel Creek’s ability to create stunningly beautiful harmonies and melodies.

Recently, Nickel Creek’s fiddle player, Sara Watkins, has been playing with Sarah Jarosz and Aoife O’Donovan. I had heard of both of them, but didn’t really know their music. But I saw this video posted by Sara Watkins, and immediately fell in love. This song is one of the most beautiful things I have heard in a long, long time, and the three of them sound amazing together.

So, with no further adieu, I present to you Sara Watkins, Sarah Jarosz, and Aoife O’Donovan singing John Hiatt’s classic “Muddy Waters.” Enjoy.
